The power and peril of emotions

Emotions are unstable and short-lived in the natural order of things, and they often have little to do with the present moment we share with others. Many people think that emotions interfere with our ability to experience the present. The way we 'feel' about our situation is simpler and less confusing than we think. From an evolutionary perspective, emotions are meant to be felt in the moment instead of remembered or anticipated. It may sound harsh or insensitive, but research shows that emotions last only 90 seconds unless we consciously keep them alive. Most conventional ways of seeking pleasure are misguided and can lead to dopamine addiction. Our idea of happiness and living well is influenced by our past experiences and limited by our personal biases, moral beliefs and social norms and values. This means that your uncle who is always grumpy, or your aunt who holds a grudge for years, or your friend who suffers from chronic emotional distress, or the stranger who takes offe...

Into Temptation

Some believe that love hurts, scorn and scars and leave your soul to bleed in the bloody aftermath, and yet most of us think love is all we need. Nobody knows why we loose our mind hooked on a feeling that none of us know anything about. And so it was for me.  After being conceived in the spirit of free loving and born to a growing concern about morals and values that drowned out the happy care free living of the Hippy Revolution that was threatening the budding world economy and opposing the segregation, subjugation and subservience necessary to protect and preserve the rule of law and establish the regulatory requirements necessary to legislate the lifestyle we are living today. If the revolution did not falter before the conservative backlash my conception would have been celebrated as a gift of hope and promise to a generation free of the hapless burocracy, senseless violence and decrepit self interest that plague social convention and threaten the sanity and sanctity of t...

A revelation of present sense and mutual relevance

Endearing the nature of serendipity

Image
Contrary to what you believe, the practice of delayed reward is a fallacy, and payment for services rendered has no value other than blatant coercion. A self-serving purpose to foster the egalitarian principles of a society deluded by lies and lofty ideals.  Contrary to popular belief reality is not a mere string of random events, seeing is far from believing, and belief is a bias just as any other fallacy that we uphold. By our deluded view that life is and end to a means, and reason a consequence rather than a presence shared in intent we unwittingly perpetuate the lunacy of our shared reality. By mutual consent we empower the notion of delayed reward, of winning as a objective, and victory as an end to a means. We blind our self to present sense, deny the confluence of relevance, defy the confluence of serendipity, and fail to see how Nature rewards the flow of mutual resonance and presence shared intent.

What is flow?

Image
Many of us may remember some experience where we were engaged in an activity, and in the blink of an eye it seemed as if hours had elapsed. This experience is referred to as flow, and a few years ago it was the subject of a lot of research that resulted in another, more descriptive term called 'optimal experience'. The reason why such a relatively strange human quality attracted enough attention to become the subject of research, is that such experiences are frequently remembered as “the best time of our life”. One of these experiments aimed to examine the different user experiences that facilitate the occurrence of flow, simply by asking research subjects to describe their flow experience. By analyzing the feedback they formulated the following qualities that are common to the flow experience. Challenge – The activity must be challenging, but not so much that it discourages people from participating. Skill – To complete the activity, a participant must use some kind o...
