The nose knows...

Most people can recall someone in their lives who had a nose for trouble, be they the motherly figure that knew when mischief was brewing, or the fiend that always knew when trouble was afoot. The nose is also linked to various other expressions, all with the implication of some "higher" purpose or greater knowledge. Take for instance the expression: "Being led by the nose", or describing someone as noseying around. It now seems that all these expressions are supported by scientific discoveries that there is a very good reason that the nose knows. In a range of experiments towards understanding the human brain and how it works, scientists have found that our noses play an important role in a wide range of human experiences. Findings that our sense of smell and emotions activate the same areas in our brain begs the question whether there is any link between our emotional well being and where we have been poking our noses? Questions like this are supported by facts li...

Ask yourself, do cats really purr?

Now don't stop there my child, your responsibility towards reality is yours and yours alone, and I will have nothing of it. Now where was I, oh yes... The cats? You must at least know something dont you know? Something about the cats and that nasty pleasant kind of whine in low gear sound. And I'm not talking about the high gear wine you get when they demand milk. That is a totally different sound and also quite another story. Do cats whine is all thats left to your interpretation. Do cats purr I wonder. And the reason why is just because we know that they have feeling, but less than no emotion. This is obvious if you care to look and see that they have pain, even though it doesn't hurt. Which is of course quite the opposite in dogs. In dogs you see, by some wierd freak of nature they were blessed with more than enough emotion, but very little feeling. They always hurt much more than what they pain. Why you can ask any dog around if they have ever been in the pound and ev...
In the world of science and technology there has been many discoveries that have made mankind cringe at the full realization of the impact of those discoveries. The most famous example is probably the discovery of the devastating power that can be released when we split the atom. In response to the shock and horror following the use of that discovery the inventor of the atom bomb started the Nobel peace prize. Another of these discoveries, that of genetic manipulation, resulted in a public outcry of such a magnitude that international legislation had to be put in place to ensure that man never used the power to give life. As with the atom bomb, this discovery was just too good to leave alone, and the birth of Dolly the sheep, who was created through genetic manipulation still make people fall to their knees to pray forgiveness. But like the atom bomb, it seems as if this discovery may redeem itself in the eyes of us, the people that push technology to the limit of our own conscience. T...

The wisdom in a psalm

In a moment long ago a shepherd once did find the glory all around. Caught in the rapture of the moment, with but his flock and nature in his palm, the shepherd met his God. In bliss he made a simple choice, but yet a choice profound enough that he believed he could be king. And when he was his hart still singed from long ago, a moment back in memory that changed him for all eternity. He wrote: The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He blesses me with pastures green to rest: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever. And...

Choices-choices

To some I suppose, the idea that they actually might have to do something to get something must be a frightening idea. Probably just as much as the realization that we may not have free choice after all. And this fear, not because we have actually been doing something, not because we have actually been making choices, but rather because it is something we have been carefully planning, meticulously studying from every imaginable angle until we are absolutely, 110% sure that we are making the right one. Choice is what we took way back in paradise, and no amount of denial will take that from us in this lifetime. I suppose that is one of the reasons that some people have difficulty in making choices... So that they can do the right thing? And they were doing the right thing by not making those choices how? But enough about other people, back to me, and my fascinating discovery about the most important choice we have! The most important choice that we can ever make is... wait for it! Your ...
